The History of The Ridley Hall
The Ridley Hall is the main community hall in South
Warnborough and has been since 1928 when Mrs. Agnes Ridley, who lived at South
Warnborough Lodge, had it built and donated it to a committee of Trustees to
run for the benefit of the Village. As
with many other halls it was found to be more efficient to vest the freehold in
the Charity Commission rather than waste money on lawyers whenever new trustees
were appointed.
The Hall continued for many years with little structural change until 2003 when it was decided to undertake a major upgrade. This included replacing an old flat roof over the service areas with a pitched one and converting the space enclosed into a small flat. The rent from which is a much needed addition to income. The hall was further upgraded in 2015 with additional storage, a new heating and cooling system, and a new floor.
The hall hosts many village events including: Film Nights, Burns Night Dance, a Quiz night, Wine Tasting and Christmas events for children and the Senior residents. All these events raise money for village projects. It can also be hired for private functions and activities. The Ridley Hall boasts a stage and a newly-fitted kitchen with state-of-the-art cooking facilities, plates, cutlery and a dishwasher.
You can find a list of up-coming events held at the Ridley Hall in the Parish Magazine, or the windows and notice board at the Village Shop where you can put your name down for tickets. There is also further information on the South Warnborough Website.
The Committee welcomes new Trustees. The work is not difficult or time consuming and if you would like to help with this important village activity please contact John Kennett on 01256 862203.
